Mark Balfour – Executive Director


Mark Balfour has been a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Western Australia since 1985, on the Roll of Practitioners of the High Court of Australia since 1986 and, previously, a Legal Executive in Perth, Western Australia since 1970.

Mark Balfour re-established his legal practice in Perth in 2012 after a period of 10 years variously as senior in-house legal counsel to various listed and unlisted public companies and private corporate entities. And as an Executive Director of public companies active in the resources sector in Australia, North America, China, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.

Mark’s areas of expertise include:

Mark specialises in business and commercial law, succession planning, wills and probate, resources and energy law, contract negotiation (significantly enhanced by completion of a course of study at Harvard Law School in negotiation in 1991) . As well as drafting, property law and urban development, corporate governance, risk assessment and business acquisitions (including mergers and acquisitions).

In his many years in private practice, Mark has maintained a long standing professional service to clients which have included statutory corporations (Federal Airports Corporation, Telstra Corporation and Australia Post), Banks and other financial institutions, greenfield urban developers, pharmacist groups, real estate franchise groups and many SMEs. Through his integrity and broad life experiences, Mark has also developed and preserved over several decades, the loyalty, trust and confidence of many families whose successive generations have looked to him for guidance and wise counsel across a multitude of issues with both legal and social outcomes.

For more than 7 years, Mark has held the office of a Trustee Director of Spinnaker Health Research Foundation (formerly Fremantle Hospital Medical Research Foundation), a charitable institution focussed upon medical and community health research in Western Australia and has been the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of that Foundation for the past 4 years.

Mark has been married to his wife, Olwyn, for more than 43 years. He has 3 adult children and, presently, 5 grandchildren, all of whom give him enormous pleasure and many a reason to laugh and live life to the full. Although age and physical injury has impacted upon his capacity to be a regular active participant in his early life pursuits of rugby, Australian Rules Football, surfing and basketball, Mark maintains a keen interest in each of those sports and his regular activity of beach walking and coffee breaks.

Tom Meagher – Executive Director


Tom Meagher has over 25 years’ legal and business experience including:

  • Previously being the majority owner and executive director of his former firm, Murfett Legal;
  • Previously working for local law and major national firms;
  • Being the national operations manager for a financial advisory IT platform provider;
  • Previously being the WA Legal Technology Group Manager for a National Law Firm
  • Owning and managing an IT consultancy business; and
  • Being a director and in-house counsel for a public company.

Tom’s clients include an extensive range of local, national and international businesses as well as numerous organisations and individuals.  Tom also has excellent communication, technology and personal skills with a proven ability to create valuable & lasting business relationships.

Tom is also a regular publisher of articles and is one of Australia’s leading presenters of legal seminars to and for various professional bodies, associations and government authorities on a wide range of business law and professional topics.

Tom is highly-regarded for being able to make very complex legal or technical aspects of any matter intelligible to and clearly understood by his relevant audience, so they are always able to understand exactly what is involved. Tom has been married to his lovely wife, Renee of over 20 years and has two great sons, Jet and Cooper. Tom is an avid surfer (and fitness & mindfulness advocate) and regularly participates in all sorts of sports and activities; including diving, rock-climbing, motorsports – basically anything exciting!


Todd Hutchison


Todd Hutchison is an international bestselling business author, a Nationally-accredited trainer and certified speaking professional (CSP) and listed in the Who’s Who of Business in Australia.  He has over 25 years working in planning and executing projects, including project recovery.

Todd is a qualified company director, having served on boards in Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States, and has led international businesses.  He has worked in over 160 organisations in 13 countries, including global corporations like AT&T, Microsoft, Coca-Cola, Deloitte, Sime Darby, Genting, Schenk Process, JP Kenny and Honeywell.

Todd was formally a global Board Director, National Chairman, and Western Australia President of the Project Management Institute, as well as the inaugural Fellow of PMI in Australia.

He holds adjunct positions with Edith Cowan University and Curtin University, and teaches international business as part of the MBA academic staff at the Australian Institute of Management.

His qualifications cover engineering, contract management, project management, education, information technology and business, including an Master of Business and Administration from Deakin University and a Master of Commerce (Information Systems) from Curtin University. He was the first to complete an undergraduate degree in legal project management worldwide and is now completing a PhD in business behavioural sciences.

He currently resides as the Chairman of both the Peopleistic Group (including the Business Education Institute and Film My Video businesses) and the International Institute of Legal Project Management, as well as being a Board Director of Leadership Western Australia.

Todd is married to Gina, and has a young daughter called Lara. He has a musical background, having won a world championship in Scotland with the WA Police Pipe Band and having played at international events like the Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
