What is Legal Project Management?

Legal Project Management is the application of project management principles and practices to enhance the delivery of legal services. In fact, it is much more than that, as the research into the Legal Project Management Competency Framework found that it includes technology enablement, process improvement and people leadership (team dynamics).   • 1-day Legal Project Management Essentials that provides a non-accredited fast paced hands-on introduction to the core principles and practices of Legal Project Management;
  • 1-day Creating a High Performing Team that provides an insight to the individual and team behavioural styles using the Extended DISC Behavioural tools and brings the neuroscience of success to a legal working environment. This includes the option of one-on-one behavioural debriefs;

  • Lawyers;
  • Project Managers (not legally qualified);
  • Practice Managers;
  • Other Legal Professionals; and

Alignment to the Global IILPM Certification: This course enables you to achieve the Legal Project Practitioner™ (LPP) certification that is a 5-year globally-recognised certification that reflects the competency of a Legal Project Manager. Certification application costs US$177. To gain the LPP certification, you must have one or more of the following:

  • be a qualified lawyer;
  • working in a law firm for at least one year;
  • working with internal legal counsel for at least one year; and/or
  • working with law firms in the capacity of an adviser, consultant or trainer for at least one year.

The International Institute of Legal Project Management offers two global certification levels:

  1. Legal Project Associate (LPA) – designed for those supporting legal matters and working in legal teams. It requires the completion of the face-to-face or online Applied Legal Project Management course. The LPA has no workplace prerequisites; and
  2. Legal Project Practitioner (LPP) – designed for those leading legal matters or aspiring to that role. It requires the face-to-face or online Advanced Legal Project Management course.  To progress to the LPP there are also workplace prerequisites that require, being one of more of the following:
  • be a qualified lawyer;
  • be a law student involved in an IILPM university program;
  • working in a law firm for at least one year;
  • working with internal Legal Counsel for at least one year; and/or
  • working with law firms in the capacity of an adviser, consultant or trainer for at least one year.
